LFP Cell Chemistry — Thermal Stability at the Source

LFP cells use an iron-phosphate cathode that requires temperatures above 270°C to decompose — compared to 150–180°C for NMC cathodes. This is the primary reason LFP is specified for enclosed data center and telecom environments where thermal runaway is an AHJ concern.

At a system level: BMS hardware monitors individual cell voltage and temperature, with hardware-enforced cutoffs at configurable thresholds. Cell balancing is passive (resistive) in this configuration, with active balancing available for OEM applications.

Proof: UL 1973 certification (File E[XXXXXX]) — includes nail penetration, overcharge, short circuit, and thermal exposure tests. Full certification documentation available in Technical Library.

Communication Interfaces and DCIM Integration

The integrated Battery Management System supports CAN 2.0B, Modbus TCP (Ethernet), and RS485/Modbus RTU. In data center UPS applications, Modbus TCP integration with the upstream UPS device and optional SNMP for DCIM/EPMS systems is the standard configuration.

BMS telemetry points: cell voltage (all series cells, 1 mV resolution), cell temperature (4 points per module), SOC, SOH, pack current (±1% accuracy), and fault register. Alarm thresholds are configurable via Modbus register map.

About This Product

Can the NESP Rack Series replace VRLA in an existing data center UPS cabinet? +

In most cases, yes — with verification. The NESP Rack module uses a 1U rack form factor (44mm H × 483mm W × 520mm D) that fits standard 19" rack cabinets. Voltage compatibility depends on your UPS's battery bus voltage — 48V-bus UPS systems have direct compatibility. Higher-voltage UPS systems (240V, 480V bus) require series string configuration, which requires BMS coordination and may require a float voltage adjustment from the UPS charger.

The primary installation consideration is weight: the NESP Rack at 18.5 kg per module is lighter than equivalent-capacity VRLA (approximately 25–35 kg for VRLA at similar capacity). Rack structural loading is typically not a constraint. Battery shelf loading may need verification at higher module counts.

Send your UPS model and rack configuration to our applications team — we can review and confirm before you commit. Talk to an engineer.

What is the actual cycle life at my discharge rate, not the rated maximum? +

The 10,000-cycle rating is at 0.2C discharge rate and 80% DoD at 25°C. At higher discharge rates or deeper DoD, cycle life will be lower. As a reference: at 1.0C discharge (sustained), expect approximately 5,000–7,000 cycles at 80% capacity retention. At 2.0C peak (10-second pulse pattern), cycle life is not significantly affected relative to 1.0C sustained. Temperature below 15°C or above 45°C will accelerate capacity fade — contact engineering for derating curves specific to your site conditions.

Does the NESP Rack Series qualify for the US Federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC)? +

We cannot provide tax advice. The NESP Rack Series meets the technical specifications commonly required for standalone storage ITC qualification under the Inflation Reduction Act (Section 48E): it is a rechargeable battery with a rated capacity of ≥ 5 kWh and a cycle life rating of ≥ 500 cycles. UL 1973 certification documentation is available for your tax advisor. We recommend consulting a qualified tax professional with the UL certification file and product datasheet to confirm qualification for your specific project structure.

What is the warranty and what does it cover? +

Standard warranty: 10 years or 4,000 cycles, whichever comes first, covering defects in materials and workmanship. Capacity warranty: ≥ 80% rated capacity within the warranty period at rated operating conditions. The warranty does not cover damage from improper installation, operation outside specified parameters, or modifications to the BMS firmware. Extended warranty terms available — contact our commercial team for warranty program details for your application.

Where are these batteries manufactured and what is the supply chain provenance? +

LFP cells are manufactured by Narada Power Source (SH:600884, Shanghai Stock Exchange) — one of the top-5 global LFP cell producers by volume. Assembly, certification, and quality inspection is managed by MPINarada in North America. Full supply chain documentation — including cell batch traceability records, factory audit reports, and Narada manufacturing certifications — is available to procurement teams under standard NDA. See the Narada Partnership Disclosure page for full transparency on the manufacturing relationship.
